Dreamy, Vintage, Roses, Lace, Hairband - All In One

I am blogging from my parents in law's in Kota Bharu. My darling sister in law is getting married tonight and the reception is tomorrow. Me, of course, so busy, like mama hen, racing to get stuff done especially for my 2 girls and my niece as the flower girls tomorrow. I made 3 identical flower girl gowns and I am so excited to put them on the girls! To complete the look, I made lots of fabric roses, some of it shown above. I have turned a few into these below - a dreamy, vintage lace hairband and 2 haircomb pins!

I am completely in love with these...they scream luxury, so worth the effort and time making them! I scoured the internet for hours for tutorials, in the end I just winged it my way, just so that I could make them faster. They sure are time consuming but the result...oooohh...!! I'll definitely post photos of the girls wearing them after the wedding, can't wait!

I've also been fiddling a lot with the camera and Photoshop. From now on I will end every post with a captured moment of my girls as they are growing up, starting with this one. Kakak Aisha was reading to her sister Hanan, on my bed...and that little one, still on the bottle at 3 yo...I love Hanan's attentive look here  :)

Hats Off!

Yup, hats off to you for sticking to this blog and keep coming back to read even when my posts are few and far between. Thank you! *hugs*

Now, I have two little girls whom are still at the "love-everything-mommy-made-for-me" stage. Deep down in my heart I know this won't last forever (especially with my pre teen Aisha) and I have to cherish it while I can.

My girls love to hang out in the studio. And when I'm busy sewing custom orders for the customers, the little one would be on my side saying "Tiut nya mommy! Ni Anan punyer terr?" Translation : Kiutnya mommy ni Hanan punya ke? aka  "So cute mom, is this mine?"

And my answer will always be the variation of - No dear this one is for auntie's baby. And she'd show her disappointment by asking WHEN exactly I'm going to sew for her! After much pestering and the big sister joining the request, I made my girls some hats.

I made four of them actually (NOT in one sitting lol)...and they are all reversible so the girls actually have 8 hats! Enough to last till next year :)

I'm sure Malaysian readers are well aware of the big name in handmade sunhat, Okinokiyo right? Mai, the owner/sewer is my twitter sewing buddy and I love all her bright and fun sun hats for little ones. I would have bought from her if I don't sew, but the fun part of making these hats is when the girls open up my stash closet and chose the fabrics themselves. The one above is what Aisha wanted, a fan of purple. I mixed solid heavy cotton with Monaluna's lavender dots. Very sweet!

Now, this little miss wanted the same hat design but a different print. I was really surprised when she chose this Sis Boom paisley and not the many fun kiddie print I have in stash! She must be attracted to the bright colors. I paired it with a bright pink & blue print. These hats have pleats on top part of it which makes it very forgiving in any wonky-ness when sewing lol

These two were actually made a few weeks ago. A tulip hat which Hanan calls topi ayam (chicken hat) LOL...she saw the print and immediately decided on the name. It's a tad small for her but so very cute! The one Aisha is wearing is a wide brim hat which was a nightmare to sew. And as you can see, I paired quilting cotton with a heavier beige corduroy (bought locally at Nagoya). Thus, it's droopy and weird looking. But the girls love how girly that hat is.

This is my first time making hats. The patterns are all from Japanese pattern book, Cucito. It's a highly gratifying project because it takes very little time to finish. But, I must say, sewing anything circular is not what I do well. Like the wide brim sunhat & the flat round top hats, they all give me headache as little pleats would form whenever I sew the circular things in urgghhh....

But these are for my girls, and because they adore their sewing momma, a little wonky-ness means nothing to them compared to the loving and new handmade stuff they get hahaha

Black & White Sewing Tools Roll

Hello! How's your weekend so far? Me, enjoying sewing time with my girls happily running, laughing and playing all around me. Pure domestic bliss. I just wish I can do this every-single-day. I yearn for it.....

That aside, I managed to finish this sewing tools roll for the sweet, sweet Far :) Pardon the weird looking photos. I took this photos near that sunny window in my ultra hot sewing room. Nowadays, I don't have to exercise, sewing in that little studio during the day makes me sweat all the fat away LOL

It's a combination of Paula Prass's Zebra print and Ikea black and white heavy cotton. I used poly batting as padding.

So practical. Slip in all your precious sewing tools.

Flip the padded cover over the tools....roll it....

....and tie the ribbons. Voila! Safe and stowed. Hope you like it Far and thank you! :)

Three Pincushions and A Dream

I made these 3 pincushions for the lovely Nurul. They are simple patched pincushions in 3 different themes. I had to include those fabulous fabric with writing I bought from Ayumi , obviously very inspired by her work :)

They are all of different sizes as I totally winged the measurements. The themes are Black and White Wonky Love, Bright Retro Sewing and Kawaii Japanese Matryoshka in Linen. I hope she likes it :)

And that dream?

I dream of a quilt. Yes, I'm itching to make one, and I want to make a picnic quilt. I want to spread that quilt when we go for a breakfast picnic at Putrajaya lake near the Equestrian Park. Oh dare I launch into such a big project?

Which reminds me I have a few more pending custom orders. I promise I'll finish it asap before end of April. And I'm taking a break from accepting custom orders this month to focus on some ready made items in the planning.

Sew It - Baby Booties

Done! Itty bitty baby booties in Tula Pink Hushabye fabrics in the prettiest sage and pink combo :D

This week's Sew It we're sewing these cuties from Stardustshoes's very popular Cloth Shoe Pattern. This is my first time sewing baby booties, I tell you, it's not easy working with tiny pieces of fabrics especially circular ones. Working it on the machine, careful not to botch the seam allowance, phewww.....

BUT, I'm so glad I made it! I mean how can I not smile looking at those bunnies? And the warm colors are just awesome!

The side view, picture taken before I sewed the buttons on top. Without the buttons the top is a bit ruched as it is pulled by the elastic inside. I used felt for the soles and lined them with solid Kona cotton. I also forgot about interfacing the fabric but it turned out okay.

I don't have small feet this size in the house anymore (oh how I miss those wiggly toes). The only baby in the family now is my newborn niece I made the quilt for before. I've yet to meet her, waiting for hubby to get away from work a day or two to go back to my hometown and see the precious Asma Widad.

And of course these booties will be hers! :)

Scrappy Belt For Aisha

A simple scrappy belt for my Aisha.

My eldest, she's so skinny all her jeans need the assistance of a belt to hold it up. So I just whipped up this one from scap fabrics, leftover from clothing and bag projects I made for her.

She insisted on wearing it this way, where the rings are spread open. She said "This is how Hannah Montana wears it mom!"

Huh? Really?

I thought this is how it's suppose to be worn...I dunno, anybody knows which one is the correct way?

p/s : She never tucks in her t-shirt, I made her do it for the photoshoot :P

Jom Jahit - Sewing Roll

The Jom Jahit sewalong hosted by Tinihani is fun, and as always, being a slow sewist, I find myself only able to finish the projects nearing the dateline :P

Well, at least this one makes me happy once completed, for many reasons! :D

One, at last a reason to use this cute scissors print Wonderland by Momo. Two, my scissors, fabric markers and other tools now have a secure, comfy home! I misplaced them all the time as I am not much of an organised kind of person lol

So instead of sewing a crayon roll I turned it into a sewing roll for yours truly.

The fabrics I used are a bit too thin. I debated wether I should interface it, but decided to add a layer of poly batting instead. Later, I quilted the pocket through the inner body fabric (the scissors print) and the batting. The result is a comfy, cuddly roll, padded and safe for my precious sewing tools.

The top part here turned to cover the tools in the pocket so that it won't slip out when I carry the roll around. Fun project, and more to come! :)

More Sewing - Frenchy Bag and Patched Pincushion

I managed to sew this Frenchy Bag by Amy Butler that I've wanted to make for so long. I love the unusual design and the endless possibilities that comes with it. The first attempt was fairly okay as I used some cotton canvas from IKEA, without interfacing. I sewed the shoulder bag option.

Overall, sewing the bag is fairly easy. But I would definitely make some changes on the next one, construction wise. This is because I find the pockets are just too large. They are a bit floppy and gaping inside. Next time I will stitch them down in the middle to make 2 smaller pockets on each side.

I will also use a different method for attaching the top band to the lining and exterior. And also, I would change the magnetic snap position. I think it's better to position it on the upper band than just below the seam because the weight of the magnetic snap somehow pulled the lining down.

I skipped the double top stitching of the exterior to lining part. I mean, I don't know how others can do this without the magnetic snap getting in the way!

Other than those improvisations to be applied in my next attempt, I still think the bag turns out pretty good, thanks to Amy's fabulous design.

Another pretty little thing I managed to make is this little patched pillow pincushion. Made entirely from little scraps of mine, I know now I have to make tons more of these cuties. Patchwork is addictive, gotta love the opportunity to play with the fabrics, mixing and matching them.
