Patchwork Pillow

I'm crazy about patchwork. Lately it's all on my mind...always thinking about possible patchwork projects to sew & some to sell.

I made this pillow cover for my bff, a birthday gift.

 It's a simple design, fit for a 16 inch cushion.

I used Moda candy or mini charm pack for the middle square patch. The fabrics are Happy Go Lucky by Bonnie & Camille. I framed the middle patch with 3.5 inch blue strips.

I love it and I hope my girlfriend love it too.

I am right now buried in so many wips I could barely stop to look at the computer. It's a miracle I could actually write this post haha...

I will be back with more projects, promise!

Been Busy Making My Patchwork Pillow Covers

Yes! I love patchwork so much and I am getting addicted to making these pillow covers!

Somehow, I am enjoying this freedom to create tremendously. It keeps me happy and gratified. I can't explain it, must be my inner creative desire speaking there lol...

This three - teal, green and blue ones..makes me smile every time I look at them :)

And this special one I made from Heather Bailey's long out-of-print fabric, from her Pop Garden collection. I match it with a fun chevron and it just screams spring to me :)

And I made a few in kids theme for the nursery :

And I had so much fun creating this dresden plate pillow! The yellow honeycomb dots is just so pretty to me and great pairing for those Lecien roses prints :)

And I'm so happy to finally delve into my Liberty lifestyle prints, I love Liberty florals, they just looks retro and very pretty!

Another one I made using Leah Duncan's new collection, Meadow. I love the modern look of this one :

And last but not least, my favorite shabby chic pillow cover, made from Tanya Whelan's new Slipper Rose prints....I just...sighhhh.....so dreamy!

Lazy Sewing For The Home

I rarely sew for my home. Main reason - not my property. I will only go crazy with decorating when we move to our own permanent home, which only God knows when. Right now I'm saving whatever amount of money I have left after buying fabrics (lol) for a furniture and decorating spree once we moved.

Still, it's Eid, and families and friends are going to visit us. Hubby hinted a few times for me to do something with our tables. They are either covered in hideous, old cloth or just plain naked. I relented after he promised not to say anything about our curtains lol.

So the above is just a simple spread of Amy Butler home decor fabric. The lazy sewer here just serged, turned and hemmed the four sides. I used the whole 2 yards in my stash. I wanna keep it simple, let the print shine in its own splendor.

The naked, cheapo coffe table got dressed in another AB Love home decor print. I only have half yard, but wanted it reversible, so I sewed that IKEA fabric you see peeking, right side together, turned it inside out, top stitched all around and wallah! New table runner-ish kind a thing in my living room :)

The glass jars housed 6 different types of biskut raya (festive cookies). Nope, if you come visit that is NOT all that will be served, I promise :P

Speaking of IKEA, our recent trip got one little girl very, very happy :D

Fitted Bedsheet and Pillowcase Dress

Hi everyone, how was (or is) the weekend? Mine was hectic as usual but I was able to squeeze a movie date with hubby and it was sweet! J *blush*

First, I’d like to say THANK YOU on behalf of little miss Hanan for all the birthday wishes. She’s lucky to have so many adoring aunties, thank you so much friends! J

So, its another new week and I just have to blog about what I managed to finish last week. Here is the custom fitted bedsheet and pillowcase for a darling, very patient customer Lyn J 

It took me so long to finish sewing even if you think it doesn’t make sense since these are just straight stitching. I believe the lack of motivation comes from fear coz this is the first time ever me cutting and sewing 6 yards of fabrics! I was really scared of botching it up, I procrastinate lol

But just look at the result. The print is just so, so cute! This set id for Lyn’s little boy room and look at just how much he is loved…

Next is the simple pillowcase dress I sewed for Kak Farhana’s daughter and niece. 2 identical 6yo and 9yo size. It is so darling, I love making these coz they are simple yet cute result everytime.  Kak Fana actually came over to my house to place her order and I have a few more dresses for her girls. Thank you Kak for your trust in me :)

Now that Ramadhan is looming, I know many of us are busy with the prep and all. It also means exam time and assignment due dates for me, so I might not be blogging as often. Please also view the shop where I made an announcement about fabrics preorder. There are some changes there.

Mama I Love You - Satin Pillowcase for Mother's Day

Last night's annual Mother's Day dinner for the family was a blast!

14 of us, noisy as usual, kissing and hugging each other, chit chatting non stop with the children happily playing and running around while the moms tried hard to get a few spoonfuls of food into them. We were seated outside in the open space, all the better, as when we're there, there's always a big risk of spills and spats LOL

You see, growing up, I was difficult. I was bright, performed well in school and always looking for ways to get the attention and praises from my parents (errmmm...perhaps I'm still like this?? :P).

But I was quite a rebel, and as any teenage girl, full of angst, tantrums and quite mischievous sometimes. Now that I am a mother, oh boy, how I pity my mom for what she had to put up with. All the dramas of me, she really ought to receive a medal for the toughest, strongest, kindest most patient mom in the world!!

I admit I was more of a daddy's girl. But, my sister and me, both got really close to our mother once we become mothers. It makes our relationship even more special now. So I guess, growing up, when mom said "You'll know what I mean when you have your own children on day!!" it actually came true (despite me rolling my eyes every time she said that of course hehe).

As you can see I sewed a Satin Pillowcase as a Mother's Day gift for my mom. I saw the tutorial here at Sew4Home website and I knew I had to try it. I used a cream satin and the trim is a beautiful Antler Damask print by Joel Dewberry from his Deer Valley Collection. It's a bit too big for my pillow here I hope mom has one that that fits well.

Working with satin is quite a challenge! So slippery and it easily snag and pull at the slightest touch of a pin. The serger really helps with the fraying though. My other only regret is only half the damask print is visible because the trim was double fold. Other than that, I'm loving this project! I only have time to make 1 pillowcase, will sew 1 more if mom wants it :)

The Sew4Home website is fabulous too! You should go there if you're sewing for the home. They offer so many fantastic tutorials using gorgeous modern and fresh designer fabrics. Very inspiring!

oh I also sewed something else for my sister and me! Will blog about that later complete with a tutorial, how about that? Yeay!

Jom Jahit - Conversation Pillows :)

The Jom Jahit sew along organised by Tinihani for March is for us to sew pillow or cushion covers. I practically begged her to extend the feature till the weekend coz I have not one but eight pillows to cover!

I used only the simplest methods for this project. No buttons, ties, zippers nope. Just plain old straight stitching and overlapped backs. The front fabrics are all medium weight cotton squares to fit the inserts I already have. I used home dec weight, canvas cotton from Ikea for the backings in dark blue color, the texture is similar to denim.

FYI, I'm not very motivated to sew for the home right now, the main reason being this is not our property. We might be moving anytime soon. The eight pillows in my living room have been covered with the same blah looking vintage roses print from Tewah for the past 2 years and believe it or not I only have one set. Yup, every weekend the pillows were naked for a day as I took out the cover, washed, only to put it back on in the evening. So sad considering I can sew! LOL, so I guess this month's Jom Jahit is the perfect motivator for me :D

Sew It - Wall Organizer

Yeay, I finished my Wall Organizer for this week's Sew It!

I've missed a few weeks of Sew It mainly because I usually sew along with a project that I voted and really wanna make for myself. Was so happy this week the wall organizer project won coz I've wanted to make one for so long. It is made from this instructions.

The construction was easy however I found the material is just too thin. Once hanged and stuffed, the pockets sort of pull the backing forward making it a bit floppy.

I assumed when the instruction says Canvas for the backing and pockets, it means cotton canvas. So I chose heavy canvas cotton from Ikea for both the backing and the pockets plus medium weight, quilting cotton in zebra print for the background. The pockets have deep 1" pleats which I'm not sure I did right.

But still, I love my wall organizer, more room to store all those little sewing trinkets! :D

Sew It - Wonky Patchwork Pillow

After a short break, Sew It started again as the Wonky Patchwork Pillow tutorial won the poll.

So I finished mine this morning, pheww! So glad I did as Sew It is a weekly sewalong, being a slow sewist, it's a real challenge for me :D

I gathered scraps in dusky pink and brown tones with some odd colours here and there. I did not pay any attention to the patcwork print positions at all, after all this is a wonky pathwork pillow lol. But I still think the dark brown polkadots overpowered the others on this one.

Still, I love it. My pillow is a 20" square, so had a 21" square patch.

The back. I love this pink Sis Boom fabric. The little miss just woke up and beaming. Glad to know at least one little girl loves the new pillow! :)

Scrappy Patched Potholders - First Patchwork Attempt

Hah..another "drive the stress away" project lol

My scraps are building up. I have around 5 bags of it and never attempted to do anything with them until last night. I decided to give patchwork a try. This is my practice before I sew a big project - a baby blanket for my beloved sister in law, as she's giving birth to a long awaited baby in March. Ok not THAT big a project, but I've never done patchwork or quilt before! :P

So I made two potholders using my scraps and some funky, old terrycloth napkins as batting. I totally winged the cutting and measurement as my scraps are all in different sizes.

The first one is a mauve and black theme. It turned out square and nice shape but the stitches are really wonky. I love the square swirl quilt I did though, and the colour scheme too.

Then I proceed to make another one coz it's weird to have just one potholder.

This time instead of basting stitches before quilting, I used safety pins to hold the patched top and the terry napkin together. I love it! So easy and saves a lot of time.

The second potholder has a rectangle shape and really wonky!! Hahaha...I don't really care coz my eyes are only attracted to the happy, retro prints and colors.

The back

I find patchwork really fun!! Definitely will move on to bigger projects.

And to think that these babies will brighten up my kitchen, bliss....

Old Curtain, New Tablecloth

This morning I sew 2 long rows of straight stitches.

I found at the back of the closet - an old kitchen curtain from my previous home. This does not fit into any windows in current house.

Okay, need to do something. I just want it out of the closet.

So, I cut them in halves, joined 3 long piece and turned it into my dining tablecloth.

The balance? Just enough to spread on top of the oven.

Hmm...not the most sophisticated of prints but this will do for now. Cheers!
