Sew It - Baby Booties

Done! Itty bitty baby booties in Tula Pink Hushabye fabrics in the prettiest sage and pink combo :D

This week's Sew It we're sewing these cuties from Stardustshoes's very popular Cloth Shoe Pattern. This is my first time sewing baby booties, I tell you, it's not easy working with tiny pieces of fabrics especially circular ones. Working it on the machine, careful not to botch the seam allowance, phewww.....

BUT, I'm so glad I made it! I mean how can I not smile looking at those bunnies? And the warm colors are just awesome!
The side view, picture taken before I sewed the buttons on top. Without the buttons the top is a bit ruched as it is pulled by the elastic inside. I used felt for the soles and lined them with solid Kona cotton. I also forgot about interfacing the fabric but it turned out okay.

I don't have small feet this size in the house anymore (oh how I miss those wiggly toes). The only baby in the family now is my newborn niece I made the quilt for before. I've yet to meet her, waiting for hubby to get away from work a day or two to go back to my hometown and see the precious Asma Widad.

And of course these booties will be hers! :)

Sew It - Wall Organizer

Yeay, I finished my Wall Organizer for this week's Sew It!

I've missed a few weeks of Sew It mainly because I usually sew along with a project that I voted and really wanna make for myself. Was so happy this week the wall organizer project won coz I've wanted to make one for so long. It is made from this instructions.

The construction was easy however I found the material is just too thin. Once hanged and stuffed, the pockets sort of pull the backing forward making it a bit floppy.

I assumed when the instruction says Canvas for the backing and pockets, it means cotton canvas. So I chose heavy canvas cotton from Ikea for both the backing and the pockets plus medium weight, quilting cotton in zebra print for the background. The pockets have deep 1" pleats which I'm not sure I did right.

But still, I love my wall organizer, more room to store all those little sewing trinkets! :D

Sew It - Wonky Patchwork Pillow

After a short break, Sew It started again as the Wonky Patchwork Pillow tutorial won the poll.

So I finished mine this morning, pheww! So glad I did as Sew It is a weekly sewalong, being a slow sewist, it's a real challenge for me :D

I gathered scraps in dusky pink and brown tones with some odd colours here and there. I did not pay any attention to the patcwork print positions at all, after all this is a wonky pathwork pillow lol. But I still think the dark brown polkadots overpowered the others on this one.

Still, I love it. My pillow is a 20" square, so had a 21" square patch.

The back. I love this pink Sis Boom fabric. The little miss just woke up and beaming. Glad to know at least one little girl loves the new pillow! :)

Come join us before Mayya feature this week's Sew It on Wednesday! It really is an easy project, great to use up those mounting scraps! :)

Sew It - Drawstring Bag

This week we are sewing drawstring bag for Sew It. Great timing as I've wanted to sew a bag for Hanan since she's so jealous of her big sis's bag.

You know she's at this stage where she wants to imitate everything her big sis does and she also wants everything her big sis has. She emphasises all this in constant "Anan Punya!!!" ("This is MINE!!!") grabbing and pushing sessions whenever her big sis touches something. Sighh...recipe for headache for the mom...

So I figured a simple drawstring bag is perfect for her. Something small and cute that Hanan can call her own and show off to her big sis. I chose the first one recommended by Mayya for Sew It, but when I went to the tutorial page I found a few variations useful to customize the bag. So I turned it into a drawstring backpack with lining. This is to make it easier for little miss Hanan to carry it.

Love how neat the lining is. I patched the outer bag to turn it into a pink and blue colorway (I LOVE pink and blue together). I used the same pink dots fabric for the lining.

Little miss Hanan was estatic! She keeps saying "Beg Anan! Beg Anan!!".

Here, at 9pm, in her pjs, she stuffed the bag with some toys. Then, she made Aisha put on her school backpack, waved mommy goodbye, said "Anan skool mommy!!" and walk hand in hand to wherever "skool" is LOL. I love my little sassypants.

Come and join us sometime at Sew It, it really is fun!

Sew It - Margaret Bag

I joined this week Sew It organised by the lovely Mayya over at Sew Chic and Unique. This time it's the Margaret Bag, the same tutorial I attempted before in my previous post here. I wanted to join this one coz I promised my sister a shoulder bag of the same design and needed the extra push to do it :D

And look at the result! I simply love it!! I used this cute Chocolate Lollipop print by Anna Maria Horner.

This design is so pretty and once done looks really great! As before, I omitted the interlining coz I don't have it. But, since the fabric I'm using is quilting cotton, I used fusible interfacing to make it sturdier.
I lined the bag with black and white gingham and attached pockets. I have to say the topstitching around the bag is challenging especially working at the bulkier multi-layer middle part.

Overall, I am much more satisfied with the result this time around. And of course the girls could not resist the bag and wanted some photo actions even if its bigger than them! LOL

Sew It - Simple Sundress and Top

Done it! I joined the Sew It - a sew along organised by lovely Mayya at Sew Chic and Unique when I saw they are sewing this simple sundress, an online tutorial over at Habitual.

I've seen this tute before but never got around to sewing it. So, this sew along is a great motivator for me to create. And of course, as I found out the best way to get Hanan to wear what I sew for her is by sewing identical garments for her sister, I made two! She gets really excited now and pestered her sister to put on the dress quickly and had a big smile when both of them walk hand in hand.

Aisha wears everything with jeans and not very keen of dresses. So I made this as a top for her. Fabric is Heather Bailey's Pop Garden - a bright red essence for Aisha and a softer peachy one for Hanan. I love this collection so much...

Sewed both dress & top for 2 hours. Really simple, pillowcase-style construction. The armhole was quite large so both my daughters wanted the t-shirt inside. Seen here at their grandparents house for a lunch party.

And this little cupcake always warms her mommy's heart with that smile :)
